Strategic plan

Cohab’s current strategic plan runs from 2026 to 2030. Our three strategic objectives and associated goals are outlined below. Cohab regularly reviews its strategy for delivering its mission, in co-operation with key partners and stakeholders. Information on specific activities can be found through the News and Events pages of this website, whilst the various thematic areas we work on are outlined in the Key Issues section. Our operational approach is described in detail on the How We Work section of the About page. OBJECTIVE 1:
Partnerships for People and PlanetFacilitating and strengthening cooperation on health and biodiversity across borders, disciplines, sectors and communities.
- GOAL 1.1 Promote and support science, policy and practical partnerships for action on health and biodiversity based on a human rights-based approach
- GOAL 1.2 Support and facilitate the inclusion of marginalised and vulnerable groups in relevant partnerships and initiatives, including indigenous peoples, rural and local communities, women and girls, children and youth, and persons with disabilities, and others
- GOAL 1.3 Ensure due consideration in relevant partnerships and initiatives of issues of equity, justice and rights in respect of health, resource use and stewardship, and participation
- GOAL 1.4 Enhance Cohab’s capacity to deliver on its mission at national, sub-national and regional levels through focused local representation and partnerships
OBJECTIVE 2:
Knowledge, Experience and PerspectivesSupporting collaborative approaches in gathering evidence, experience-sharing and knowledge exchange on the linkages between health and biodiversity
- GOAL 2.1 Work closely with partners on communication efforts to address global and regional challenges, local issues and information needs
- GOAL 2.2 Support partners working at local levels to develop appropriate communications strategies, engaging communities and creating opportunities for them to share their experiences
- GOAL 2.3 Promote the importance of biocultural diversity and ensure its inclusion in appropriate plans, policies and initiatives, including appropriate consideration of different systems of knowledge and cultural exchange
- GOAL 2.4 Support development and communication of the evidence on linkages between health and biodiversity, and related global priorities, including through research initiatives, support for citizen-led science and integration of diverse systems of knowledge
- GOAL 2.5 Support the engagement of youth in evidence gathering, knowledge exchange and experience sharing efforts to facilitate inter-generational knowledge transfer
OBJECTIVE 3:
Responses for ResiliencePromoting and supporting the integration of health and biodiversity in relevant multi-lateral, national and local policy frameworks and action plans.
- GOAL 3.1 Examine the barriers to mainstreaming of biodiversity and health inter-linkages in relevant sectors, and work with partners to address these in order to enhance uptake of relevant evidence, tools, mechanisms, scientific methods, frameworks, and approaches
- GOAL 3.2 Support integration of health and biodiversity inter-linkages into relevant multi-lateral processes and related programmes of work at global and sub-global levels
- GOAL 3.3 Work with partners to promote synergies in multi-lateral agreements across health, biodiversity and other related global priorities
- GOAL 3.3 Provide support to national, local, urban and other civic authorities in understanding and interpreting the evidence in their relevant contexts, and in developing appropriate responses centered on a human rights-based approach
- GOAL 3.5 Support and facilitate action planning centered on the role of indigenous peoples, and rural and local communities as stewards of their local biodiversity and as key partners in defence of planetary health
