Rome, 16th February 2026
This week at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organisation in Rome, Italy, member countries of the UN are meeting to review the progress of implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
In 2012, the countries which are parties to the CBD established a Subsidiary Body on Implementation with four core functions: (a) to regularly review progress in implementing the CBD; (b) strategic actions to enhance implementation; (c) strengthening means of implementation; and (d) advancing operations of the CBD and its various action plans and protocols.
The sixth meeting of this Subsidiary Body (SBI-6) is being hosted by the FAO, focusing on the CBD’s financial mechanism, a mid-term review of the CBD’s Gender Plan of Action, co-operation with other conventions and international organisations, and various administrative, financing and technical matters.
The Cohab Initiative Secretariat is represented at SBI-6, to follow the negotiations and in particular to follow discussions on the Gender Plan of Action, and the CBD’s mechanisms for international cooperation. The text of Cohab’s position statements to SBI-6 on these agenda items, including our recommendations for amendments to the related draft decisions which will go forward to the UN biodiversity summit in Armenia later this year (CBD COP17), can be found at the links below.
Meetings such as SBI-6 also provide important opportunities for Cohab to engage with its international partners, as we work together to strengthen partnerships for people and planet.
Cohab’s involvement at SBI-6 is in line with our mission statement, and forms part of its activities under Cohab’s strategic plan to 2030.
